Confused over BlitzPlus and Blitz3d

Blitz3D Forums/Blitz3D Beginners Area/Confused over BlitzPlus and Blitz3d

Hi Folks,
I have just bought Blitz3d and was wondering if it contains all the functionality of BlitzPlus with 3d bits bolted on - or will I need to buy BlitzPlus if I want the best solution for 2d graphics?

I'm sure this question was only just asked a few threads down, but still..

Blitz3d does not have any of the GUI functions that are in BlitzPlus. Blitz3d DOES have all the functionality of the ( now dormant ) Blitz2d. It can do all your DirectX 2d graphics stuff for games, but it doesn't have the GUI stuff you might want to use for apps.

On the other hand there are various alternatives which you can use with Blitz3d to add all those GUI functions. I'm using XLnt which imo looks better than the Windows API anyway.

BlitzPlus has no built-in 3d functionality, although you can use OpenGL with Peter Scheutz's userlib ( though you need to understand OpenGL to take advantage of this. )

Thanks Sybixsus
So if I want to whizz sprites around the screen - such as games like pacman or galaxians then I should be ok with blitz3d yes?

Yes, although either will do for that.

Oh yeah. BlitzPlus is very new. Almost all the 2d games that have been made in Blitz were made either in Blitz3d or Blitz2d. And everything in Blitz2d is in Blitz3d as well. In fact the only difference between blitz2d and 3d is that Blitz3d makes slightly larger executables.
