Im quite new around here, and i've heard a couple of people mention it, so what is it?

Kevin_(Posted 2003) [#2]
It doesn't exist (yet!)

Regards

Alright then, what is it GOING to be?

Koriolis(Posted 2003) [#4]
THAT is concise! :)
BlitzMax is the upcoming (but when...?) new version of Blitz. It's suppsoed to be far superior. As a separate new product, you'll have to buy it (ie it won't be just a free update). Simply do a search in the forums for more information.

It`s a Phantome :)

I wonder, will B3D be discontinued after BMAX like B2D with BPlus

jhocking(Posted 2003) [#7]
Probably. All the 3D functionality will be included in BlitzMax so there will be no reason to keep B3D around. Although I suppose there may be people who want to keep using DirectX and BlitzMax will be built on OpenGL.

soja(Posted 2003) [#8]
I sure hope it's discontinued... that way Mark can focus all his energy on BlitzMax updates (and maybe BlitzPlus, if there must be a "BlitzMax lite"... though I would prefer a single programming language product.)

Ross C(Posted 2003) [#9]
Yeah i agree, but only if my blitz3d stuff will work with as little changes as possible :)

JaviCervera(Posted 2003) [#10]
I say, add decent bump mapping support, DXTC, and stencil shadows to Blitz3D, and i don't need anything more. Then Mark can focus 100% on BMax :)

Kuron(Posted 2003) [#11]
Last I heard, Blitz MAX was being alpha tested by a team of Tibetan Monks who had taken vows of silence.

jhocking(Posted 2003) [#12]
And a team of ninjas have been instructed to slay any monks who breathe a word.

Kuron(Posted 2003) [#13]
And the Sherpas have trained all the Yetis to eat any of the ninjas who leak out info.

Agamer(Posted 2003) [#14]
and those nijas must of been instructed to kill any one the monks told

Mark Sibly stated at some point that B3D and BlitzMAX would coexist.

I agree with some people I think BlitzMax should replace all the other products... I suppose he could still sell blitz3d and blitzplus, just publicly offer no more support for them, so like someone said, if they want something that uses dx7 instead of opengl they can. For me personally I don't care what rendering it uses, just as long as it simplify's alot of tasks and helps me focus on making games (and yes I know bmax won't necesserily be strictly a games language but still)... Also as long as the syntax isn't that much different... I don't want to take years re-learning the new version ;-)

Andy(Posted 2003) [#17]
Come on people... We are just feeding the rumourmill with this crap. If you were considering buying B3D and someone is talking about replacing it with BlitzMAX, then you propably won't buy B3D... Every week there are a couple of people asking the same questions either here or on Blitzcoder 'When is BlitzMax ready' or 'Should I wait untill BMAX is ready, I don't want to buy a dead product' etc.

We can speculate and theoretize all we want, but alot of people(newbies, B2D owner looking to get into 3D and people having to decide between DBP and B3D) don't realize that this is what we do, and take it as truth.

I think this speculation is doing more harm than good, and I am tired of having to explain to potential customers posting on BC, that B3D is far from dead and that BMAX is far away.
