2D vs 3D

This may have been asked before, but there are so many articles here and I can't find a search...so... After building a screen using 2d commands, is there anyway to preserve it before a 'Renderworld' - which obliterates it. ...OR...have the 3d gfx in front of the 2d world?

Use CameraClsMode cam,False,True.
