any examples on pasting an image from a clip board? do you have to paste it to a gadget in a window or can I paste it to a non gui program display?

for example if I copy an image from say Paint and then I want to paste it into my program which isn't running in a maxgui window.

also how would I determine the size of the image in the clipboard.
