Ruz(Posted 2007) [#1]
mm, bit dull this stuff , but I am plugging through learning a bit of environmental modelling

puki(Posted 2007) [#2]
Eh?

What's going on here? Who are you?

"Ruz" can model lifelike humans - worked in the games industry.

He cannot have resorted to modelling a filing cabinet.

Who are you? What do you want?

Ruz(Posted 2007) [#3]
ha ha I am now a hobo, eekiing out a living, dancing for gentlemen in camden high street

But apart from that I am no longer working in the games industry. I was just too important to work as a mere artist:)

chwaga(Posted 2007) [#4]
I like them, excelent texture work, and the beveled edges give it just the right touch.

Ruz(Posted 2007) [#5]
cheers chwaga .
yeah I have not touched sub d modelling in years and have really struggled this week, but I am slowly getting it back.
The bevelled edges thing gave me a proper migraine:0

Heres a little update. Notice the z fighting issue in 3dsmax. Pretty poor really

The filing cabinet.... If that's the kind that we all know and love that holds suspension files the drawers aren't nearly tall enough and the unit isn't nearly deep enough.

Unless it's actually much bigger that it looks and it's one of those lateral jobbies...

But that would make your plant massive!

And the plant doesn't look like it's that big judging by the size of the cane (and the fact that it has a cane at all)

Ruz(Posted 2007) [#7]
yeap its a lateral jobby and I am not far off the ref pic, but the plant was just slapped on:).
The bottom ref pic of yours might be a bit mislaeading though, the perspective makes it look like its not very deep.

TBH, there are loads of different syles, sizes out there.

Doggie(Posted 2007) [#8]
So...is the file cabinet animated?

Ruz(Posted 2007) [#9]
ermm, animated in what way. you mean opening draws and such?

Ruz(Posted 2007) [#10]
another lil item for practice

Ruz(Posted 2007) [#11]
last one, promise!!

TaskMaster(Posted 2007) [#12]
Last one? Don't stop...

Are you making these models available? I know puki wants them. :)

Ruz(Posted 2007) [#13]
ha ha puki probably already has them.)
I am planning on making content packs as a little busines venture, so more on this soon, when I have more content made.

puki(Posted 2007) [#14]
I'm not buying a filing cabinet that a demented barn owl could have done, whilst mincing his head in a meat mincer.

Animated characters are welcome though - especially Fantasy/RPG type ones.

Star Trek Original series character ones are also required.

Ruz(Posted 2007) [#15]
well the art of making a sexy filing cabinet is an art only mastered by ninjas.
Look carefully and you will se that most of thr details likle the handles is just normal maps.

IPete2(Posted 2007) [#16]
Ruz,

Nice to hear from you again.

IPete2.

Ruz(Posted 2007) [#17]
cheers IPete2 , how you doing man?

big10p(Posted 2007) [#18]
I want a Sadsong phone! :P

Ruz(Posted 2007) [#19]
I wanted to call it 'singsong' orignally:) big10p
my missus comes from the orient and thought it was quite funny too. how about samsun!!
damn copyright issues

Dabz(Posted 2007) [#20]
Nice work Ruz! :)

Yeah, great to see again mate! ;)

Are you living back in Durham or are you still down south?

Dabz

Ruz(Posted 2007) [#21]
back in London now mate. I worked at monumental games in Nottingham for last 8 months which was fun.
The are making an MMO called football superstars

IPete2(Posted 2007) [#22]
I'm ok thanks - working my socks off on a 4 level platformer style game, that's keeping me really busy.

IPete2.

Ruz(Posted 2007) [#23]
Good stuff man, I am strarting up my own business - outsourfcing of some kind.

chwaga(Posted 2007) [#24]
my shot at a filing cabinet :)

380 faces, no texturing at all, just grey colored. How long did those textures take to make, and what tool did you use?

TaskMaster(Posted 2007) [#25]
Why is the bottom drawer smaller? Not going to be able to put any files in it!?!

LineOf7s(Posted 2007) [#26]
Pffft~ - that's the plate warmer, silly!

chwaga(Posted 2007) [#27]
lol, it's a very special bottem file :P

Ruz(Posted 2007) [#28]
thats a good start chwaga. my textures took about 10 mins, but the normal map stuff a bit longer to set up.
The specular map is very important too obviously

chwaga(Posted 2007) [#29]
what tool did you use? (for the textures)

Ruz(Posted 2007) [#30]
used pshop cs2

jfk EO-11110(Posted 2007) [#31]
Those were the days when a filing cabinet had only 12 Tris, or maybe even less (save bottom and back :) ).

Hi Ruz!

Ruz(Posted 2007) [#32]
Hi Jfk. I have been looking at your demos of late. nice stuff. like the grass in particular
yeah the filing cabinet can 't have open edges because of the shadow volumes. what a pain next gen is at times

Ruz(Posted 2007) [#33]

nother one

chwaga(Posted 2007) [#34]
nice

Yo! Wazzup?(Posted 2007) [#35]
Now ya gotta get different textures for the cushions (so they dont look the same.)
I'll be WAITING :)

Ruz(Posted 2007) [#36]
that would involve more work and I am a bit lazy today:)

N(Posted 2007) [#37]
Hm, hadn't even noticed you were doing the same thing as me (sort of). Nice work.

Ruz(Posted 2007) [#38]
cheers noel .yeah , just decided to try some environment stuff for a change.
