Hi folks,

I've been working on improving the file loading logic within a project I've spent some time on. I have updated a Trial version of the software at the following location:

[EDIT]Updated the file available for download on the 16 Nov 14.

http://www.gpsrunner.co.uk/GPSFunRunner3DDemo/setup_GPSFunRunner3D_Demo.exe

I have downloaded the project onto a Windows 7 laptop and it installs and runs with no issues.

If anyone could confirm that they also have no issues with installing, running, pressing the 'Import' button on the presented interface. Waiting 1-2 minutes for the tcx files to be imported (there are two tcx files supplied within the installer, but these can be replaced with your own)

& then

Finally, pressing the Open 3D Data Viewer button and pressing start within the Blitz3D created executable.

If you have time, also selecting the pace mode ON button after pressing start would be appreciated.

Any feedback appreciated,

Thanks - Blitzplotter.

It installed and ran here (though I had to go into the Start Menu -- should ask to place an icon on dekstop), but on hitting "any key" in the console popup, I got a MAV... :(

Click!

After I close the MAV dialog, I can go back to the main window and try again, but get the same thing.

Floyd(Posted 2014) [#3]
MAV here too, error looks just like the screen shot above.

The path to file 2 is wrong, should be the same as file 1 prior to \IMPORT2

Thanks for the feedback, really appreciated, just got back in from a Big Country gig, awesome to see them still rocking after 25 years.

The screenshot really helps a lot, I`'ve been developing this over a number of years and its hard to see the wood from the trees sometimes.

I can see I'm misconstructing the path name for the 2nd import ;)

BlitzSupport(Posted 2014) [#5]
Whoa, Big Country are still going?? Never been a big fan, but I remember watching a video in the mid/late-80s and enjoying it... seem to recall use of an eBow-type device to control feedback in a really cool way, but have never been able to find it since!

BTW I'm definitely not a potential customer, being too lazy for this sort of thing!

Also, meant to note earlier that the download was slower than any I've seen in a long time -- think it was about 25MB and it was telling me 8-9 minutes. Just tried again and it's telling me anything from 4-20 minutes!

We were watching Restless Natives last night to warm us up for the gig (The clown and the wolfman!) ;)

I've rectified the issue, it took a little head scratching - I'd neglected to create a directory that the importer was trying to write to (the installation script did create it previously and I had commented it out!), hence the MAV. Took a little figuring out but thanks again for your help, really appreciated.

http://www.gpsrunner.co.uk/GPSFunRunner3DDemo/setup_GPSFunRunner3D_Demo.exe

Tried implementing a shortcut creation element, however I need to do some more research. As for running it automatically after installation - that results in the VB6 front end getting confused about where it is running from - another slice of research required there with respect to Inno Setup, which is generally quite a good installation scripting tool. I suspect it maybe the limitations of VB6 (or how I've implemented it at the moment) that results in the front end beleiving it is running from the download directory as opposed to the installed directory.

As for the download - it seemed to bounce from 28m down to 4 then 1 min (within the space of 50 seconds or so) estimated download time - I was shocked to see it at 28m initially - what is the typical download time that you should expect for 25MB these days?

That's working now, including the Pace Mode ON thing... it did open in a tiny window, though, possibly as small as 320 x 240!

It does seem like it's not really doing anything in Pace mode, though -- the guys are running on the spot and none of the data is changing!

As far as download speed goes, I'm on a 50-60 MBPS connection, and a 60+ MB file just downloaded in 13 seconds or so -- but the demo is still really slow to download. Reckon a new host might be in order!

Thanks for re-testing. I deliberated over opening in full screen mode or windowed mode with 1920 x 1200 resolution and opted for windowed mode. Maybe Ill revert it to full screen.

It seems I have another little Gremlin to address, after pressing start and then the pace mode the green and purple guys should be walking then jogging for about 20-30 seconds before running on the spot when the provided data runs out. Also the life force decrements when the bpm exceeds the 140 bpm threshold for either of the data imports, although if its not finding the imported data then its not going to show anything ;)

Could you maybe let me know how many files you have in your C:/ProgramData/GPSRunner/MGX folder? This'll give me a clue as to where to start looking for another path issue - cheers.

Yeah, that had crossed my mind ;) I tried navigating to my trialversion page - this page is down as my Web hoster has a service status issue....

Looks like you have a source .bb file in there, BTW!

Floyd(Posted 2014) [#10]
I just tried it now and have both MGBB and MGX.

MGX has eight files:

encryptedoutput_locations3.dat
locations1.dat
locations3.dat
makeMGX.txt
velocity1.dat
velocity2.dat
velocity3DUAL.dat
velocity3DUAL_why.dat

Floyd(Posted 2014) [#11]
Now I see the source of confusion. That was in the ProgramData folder. There is another MGBB in Program Files (x86)\GPSFunRunner3D.

Thankyou for the feedback, I now know the import is placing the transitional files for the B3D viewer to locate, I have another (Creaky) laptop I hopefully confirm the green and purple guys running on the spot issue ;)

[EDIT]Tried downloading and installing the project on my sons laptop - it seemed to run ok, although I really need to optimize the importer somehow for slightly slower machines.

Then I thought I'd try it on an old XP machine (fully suspecting it would fail - the directory structure is different) sure enough it failed early on due to XP being unsupported by me at this time...(That might change - my Garmin GPS has always interfaced with my XP box fine - it has always been tempremental on the W7 box.)

Thanks for pointing out the .bb, think thats a hangover from not being entirely sure what was required to make the project run post installation script blah a while ago.

As for the green and purple guys not getting of the starting blocks - I need to do a little more digging to try and replicate the issue. Just a thought, can you try pushing the pace mode button right after pushing the start button? It might be the avatars have reached the end of the supplied data....

My Web hoster seems to have resolved their 'slow' issue, both times I downloaded the project this evening was around 16 seconds - which is good enuf ;)
