Hello I have a GF 8400GS, my box has two three fans, and I am forcing the clock to better performance, this is really very stable, I have it a week ago playing GTA IV, but I worry that danger really does this, I can burn the graphics card? Greetings. ![]() |

I wouldnt overclock it because it cut short of lifespan of graphics card as that is my view.... It is the same for CPU :) |

If you want faster graphics, buy a better card. Overclocking shortens the life of the hardware and is the easiest way to kill it good and proper if you push it too far, and the 8400gs isn't that great anyway. |

I worry that danger really does this, I can burn the graphics card? Yes, you can if the temperatures get too high for too long... Although often the system would 'just' get unstable and crash or produce weird graphics artifacts on the screen before any permanent damage is done. However, since overclocking lets the chips run outside their designed specifications, it could reduce the lifespan of the hardware, sometimes significantly so. Unless you can afford to buy a new card when yours dies, overclocking it probably isn't worth it. (Now, a temperature of 47C as shows in your screenshot isn't bad, but keep in mind that it's sitting idle there -- if you play a 3D game for a while that temperature is likely to rise significantly. It also depends on your room temperature: if you don't have air conditioning, it's likely to get a lot hotter during the summer months) |

Short answer; as with overclocking CPUs yes. I would not recommend it, unless; A) you know what you are doing and/or B) do not really care if you do break it. Last edited 2012 |

Well, playing GTA IV the temperature at 65 degrees by Celsius. But I think it's best to care card and just leave it factory, because if it bothers me is very difficult to find a new ... worth saying though that buying second-hand, ie someone already has used it and I sold it very cheap. |
