graphics updated a vast improvement

Ive added some fixes and button prompts

Ive added Talking and Forced voters, New game and easy exit

I have made a roman themed voing game, where you gain gold for passing laws , but you can bribe, rally support, but it all costs gold, if the cenate ties you will lose kinda like roulette on 00, its a gamling game but not for real money.

it seems to be a good idea for a game, Ive not done all I can yet, it has quirks, but I like it

brilliant concept - thumbs definitely down for this (if you don't get the reference - thumbs down is good, thumbs up is bad - it didn't look good in a roman movie so the director swapped it around)

reminds me of (if I remember right) el presidente on the PET

ok, only thought on looks is the basic design:
The roman senate was not based on a circus design, but an oblong with tiers. the closer to the floor the more power you had (virtually like the UK parliament)

the building is called the Curia

source:

it is one of the few remaining intact buildings in Rome due to it being converted to a church later.

Here's a tiny pic of the actual plan:

The info looks good I should of researched it first I think it could of been a much better game if I had, but I'm learning. I only loosly based it on a voting system and after I did the game I decided it reminded me of rome, but you have some great ways of making games authentic adam.

Rally gets a lot more voters to attend(but its still an unknown numver each time) force and talk are also different costs and numbers of voters are also different talk can be more expensive than force but you can get more voters, but both talk and force are low compared to rally, bribe means that the new voters in greater numbers than force and talk your way but is very expensive, you have to do an action between vote rounds so if your low on gold force is used, if you run out of gold your ejected. Leave allows you to come back the next day but you will lose the current days expense.

mmmm.... thinks

ok, you have your senators face on and your board top down. really (if i'm being pedantic) they should be on or the other to make them sit well together.

You are also using very block color to denote different groups of seniors. Of which there is one graphic per group.

OK, using the card method of construction (we looked at previously) where a card is boult from a small set of primitives, each being coloured. we can use the same here:

We take a graphic of a senator (a nice one not a comedy one, and not a photo). we first separate it from the background - using photoshop or whatever, but this can take time to master well.

now for the groups. these are denoted by the color of the toga. so we need to cut this out and make it grey (we will add the color later)
And while we are at it, lets do the same for his shirt and hair. that was we can have many, many different senators with just these.

Now, I have already done this for you: width is 106

You can see the full senator first - draw that with SetColor 255,255,255

next up is the shirt, for each senator, come up with a color and draw it on top

after that is his hair. setcolor 40,40,40 would be sorta black, setcolor 0,250,0 would be green although he might not back your proposal with green hair!

Lastly is the base and toga color - set this to setcolor 250,150,150 for red. You can play with the colours, but again keeping them sorta in range of each other is a better bet, but it gives you something to begin with and a great place to experiment :)

lastly. Purple was expensive and usually only worn by the emperor, etc. lower grades would probably have more muted earth tone shirts? ochres, buff, browns, tan, etc

ok. that the senators sorted. I wracked my brains about the next step for a bit and came up with this:
we are now looking head on, so can use some artistic licence and drop half the senate and concentrate on just the facing bit.

There are three tiers so we will need 3 steps and a background:

I've used bucket loads of artistic licence here, if you are wondering where the bg comes from it's actually a 3d render that is then modded and re photoshopped with the steps, etc

So a senator should now sit just in the middle of each step:

You can see how I've desaturated the bg and blurred the far bg to make the senator pop out, using different coloured senators, you now have a senate to play with.

One last thing
The 3 tiers of the senate also denoted their rank. high ranking at the front, low ranking at the back

using a bit of thought in a group there should be 1 high rank, and 2 low ranks, middle rank could be 1 or 2?

if you (the player) started as a tribune (lowest consul rank representing the people) the aim could be to work (bribe, assassinate, etc) your way up the ladder to become emperor

That would give you a name: Beat The Senate

ok one (really) last thing. The text. if we are going all roman, then it should be a sort of bold times (one with those pointy bits)

@ blurring the far
You should start blurring on te stairs/ranks already ...at least the top one. Else it is a too sharp cut between blurred and non-blurred.

What you could do too is: scaling the figures the more far away they get... this will increase perspective.

BTW: I just dropped that "senator image" (with the cut-out-pieces) to google-images and it suggested "roman senator" ... frightening!

@ Buttons
You are using many buttons, so it looks not that "exciting" to have this "scroll-bg" for all these buttons.
So you'd better "group" them and use some kind of "group background". Or you use individual icons for your actions.

Just hmm, make it look less "mathematically aligned" ... Many people do not really enjoy "excel-sheet"-games (but there are some...).

@ title
Beat The Senate ... it somehow sounds less "intrigue" as it should for a Roman senator.

"Roman Impostor"
"Senatus Vertigo" (the cheating senate)
"Senator Novus" (the new senator)
"Corruptio" (...self explaining)
"Senatus - Pecunia non olet" (senate - money doesn't stink)
"Suffragium" (voting)

(maybe that brings up new ideas)

My favorites are: "Corruptio" (because you do not need to know "Latin" to know what is meant) and "Senatus Vertigo".

@ Adam
Do not take away energy from your other project to this one ;-) Finish the one first, then there is time to "polish" the next Mainsworthy-game ;-)
