| Following a call out at blitzcoder to name the dang ol' game; I have the following contenders... Shotgun Cletus Southern Xenocide Strike Force Cletus Cajun Invasion Day of Deliverance Worst Contact Southern Justice Angry Cletus Appalachian Invasion Encounter on *something* Mountain Pitchforks and Phasers Now, I quite like Worst Contact. But my wife reckons no-one will get it. So what to you fullas think? |

| Shotgun Claybourne. Cletus sounds like a VD. Anything with "contact" in it, has a SiFi ring to it. |

| Indeed. 'Twas my favourite. But I don't want to go explicitly dissin' them Cajuns. I did a web search and there was screeds of websites popping up with "Cajun Invasion" written across them, usually accompanied by pictures of big hairy men playing accordians. |

| Cletus sounds like a VD. That's 3 people so far have identified negative connotations with Cletus as a word. Tell it to Pope St. Cletus! ;o) Still it might be no bad thing to keep Cletus out of the title - but I'm keeping it as a name. Cletus Claybourne would be a good name actually. Or just Cletus Clay. Anything with "contact" in it, has a SiFi ring to it. Indeed. But since there are aliens, ray guns, flying saucers and all that in the game, that was kind of the point - still it's true, the hillbilly element isn't evident in that title; its main problem I guess. |

| 3 people so far have identified negative connotations with Cletus The first time I read the name of this project I literally laughed out loud at your very funny play on the word "clitoris", seemingly implying that the hillbilly was a right c**t. As time has gone on I have become less and less confident that this was intentional... this is significant, because if you haven't acknowledged the association in your game with a wry smile and a wink then it gives your intended market an opening to laugh AT rather than WITH the product. This goes double for the media... in an age of indeti-kit coverage "Cletus" is a bored hack's gift. And, if your publisher is doing its job correctly, the game should be getting at least a few inches coverage based purely on its aesthetic style (not necessarily a review, you understand). I quite like Worst Contact. But my wife reckons no-one will get it. Make your wife a cuppa. It's a great pun but I'd never touch it with a bargepole... any problems with the word Cletus [snigger] fade in comparison to the use of "worst" in the title. Now THAT's a negative connotation waiting to happen. A gameplay demo would be useful Anthony -- we're hardly liable to capture the essence of your game in a snappy title without a taste! |

| That's really odd. I thought Cletus was known by everybody to be an actual, genuine name. Do a search for cletus on google and all kinds of people come up... hey, there's even a bluegrass band called Cletus and the Barnburners. But it sounds like amongst a significant number of people this is causing some problem. I had not considered any trouble with including "worst" in the title (nor had I had this brought up until now); I guess it would be a real problem if I was worried about bad reviews. Demo - a new will be appearing on the Blitz demo CD. Which is one reason why I have to finalise the name pronto... |

| Sure it's a real name. The 'slack jawed yokel' on the Simpsons is named Cletus. And I have to point out that hillbillies and Cajuns are entirely different. Cajuns are those bayou dwelling, fan boat driving, alligator poaching, 'Cajun French' speaking dudes. |

| Yes, they're French-descended Louisiana folks. Which kind of illustrates part of the problem in using any ethnically-specific references, and why I won't be using that title, despite it being quite a cool sounding title. |

| Don't Annoy Cletus McCoy. I posted this to BC but late in the piece so maybe you missed it. Or you just don't like it. Reckon it works with your southern / hillbilly / riled up theme. And you have to keep 'Cletus' in the name. |

| PitchForkin' Ivaders :-0 But seriously, can you give us some more details about the game Anthony .. something might click: 1) what is his mission parameters! 2) what locations does cletus fight the aliens in? 3) What kind of creatures (other than the aliens) does he fight? 4) what 'weapons of mass destruction' does he have? 5) Is he a lone fighter defending his territory? 6) does he have a family of hillbillies to protect? 7) does he have to protect his farmyard animals? 9) powerups? If you have a name of the town/country where he lives ... 'Honky Tonk Showdown in xxx Town' |

| Alrighty... To answer your questions 1) kill 'em all, generally 2) on his farm, mountainsides and stuff 3) a few space monsters, UFOs, robots and killer alien plants. Also he's booby-trapped his own farm, so you have to watch out for that too. (NB - none of this stuff is in the demo yet!) 4) fists and feet. And sometimes, shotgun, dynamite, maybe a few others. 5) yup 6) nope 7) yup, sometimes 9) er... a few things, nothing worth mentioning here really. And a fresh screenshot  EDIT - oh crap, I think my domain name just expired... damn! |

Still I think Cletus Clay is a good name for the character, which works even without any claymation association. Oh, and you forgot "Independance Clay" ;o) |
