Hey, I just made a quick mesh on Wings 3D of a truck.
Tell me what you think, I don't know how to add texture so if anyone knows then post it!
This is my first mesh I have made and if anyone thinks anything is mising tell me.

If the pic dosen't work then go to: *http://sticks.homestead.com/aboot.html*
copy between the stars.

-Thanks

Looks good! Maybe you should not use Spheres in the Wheels, instead utilize Textures for that Part and save some dozen Tris.

Trying something...

Well this way the Image works here - not shure if it works for you too since my Browser suppresses the Referrer.

Mm, definitely strip out some polygons - forget about he spheres on the wheels, and all the ladder/light details on the body - better just to draw this stuff on. Likewise with the mudguards - no need to give them sides, it's wasted. And stuff like the exhaust pipe/axles have too many polygons around the circumference, too. The way it is now, it'll choke up too much graphics resources for no good reason.

That's just a practical/performance consideration if you actually want to use this truck in a game. You need to keep the number of polygons down as low as possible. The model itself looks good - but I really don't think that's the proper way to attach truck axles to the chassis!

So in order to put it in a game I have to cut back on the polygons? Is that because it will get to slow and laggy?

Ross C(Posted 2003) [#6]
Well, it will work, but you wanna have the absolute minimal amount of polys, but keeping a good level of detail. The ones suggested for removal wouldn't affect the quality of the model very much :o)

po, yes, always try to keep the Polycount low. Especially don't use Tris where they are not really required. It's a basic Law :) If you use lots of Tris, then please for something like round shapes of a Porsche or something :)

The reason is: the less Tris you Truck uses, the more Trucks can be in the Game. Trucks and other things, of course.

Have a look at Lithunwrap, Key posted a link in "other tools". Then try to draw the Ladder onto the Texture aso.

Hint: in Lithunwrap> Select all, UV-Map:Box-Mode, then horizonticly Flip the left side of the Truck and lay it over the right side... Feel free to ask when something isn't clear with Lithunrap (happens sometimes :) )

I think Lithunwrap can support everything accept Wings 3D, I don't think I can load a .wings file and that's what I made the truck on :(

Wings shurely offers Export in OBJ or 3DS or something. And this Model does not include anything you cannot export and reimport in OBJ or 3DS Format.

Who is Anonymous guest? Thought that was scrapped?

My internet went all weird and when I put a post up it said 1 Po and 1 anonymous quest......
