hi all, in order to convert our b3d game "plobb!" to blitzmax and make it crossplatform, we are creating a graphical effects module called 'spritemax' as a base for our future game developments (something like sprite candy does). could you please test this little effects demo and send me some info about fps and graphic card specs? thank you very much! download the little demo here: windows: http://download.preview.ch/dancingplobb.exe osx: http://download.preview.ch/dancingplobb.sit screenshot: ![]() |

running very smooth on my test configuration, but i cant see any FPS counter... ooppss..sorry, there is small debug window after execution is done..here is the data Min FPS : 76 Max FPS : 178 Sprite Max: 586 P4 2.4GHz, 1GB RAM, nVidia FX5600 256MB VRAM, WinXP SP2 |
| ||
FPS Min = 203 FPS Max = 420 spritemax = 584 P4 3.2Ghz, 1GB RAM, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, WinXP SP2 |
| ||
FPS Min = 40 FPS Max = 69 SpriteMax = 584 |
| ||
FPS Min = 174 FPS Max = 273 SpriteMax = 584 I don't know if this is supposed to happen, so I figured I should mention it: If you look at the info above, it seems pretty decent. However, I do see some weird glitches -- pretty much every second on the second, there's a very noticable hiccup. Perhaps some delta-timing issue? I'm using an LCD screen, 1024x768x32 resoltution @75Hz. Other than the hiccup, it looks very nice. I still play the B3D version of Plobb on occasion, except it looks like the 1.0.3 release has absolutely no chance of ever hitting a highscore. I can finish the game every time, but am still hundreds of thousands of points short of making the high score table. If you're redoing Plobb in Blitzmax (as it looks like), here's a few suggestions: 1) Have a unique highscore table for each (sub) release, so changes that can affect the total possible score don't make it impossible to get a highscore with the latest version 2) Please make the animated background optional, have the ability to turn it off. While it looks nice, it also induces some motion sickness & queaziness. The color combination of the background in this test application even more so than the B3D plobb. (Plus making the background anim optional could also keep the FPS higher on low-end systems) |

hi all, we just updated the prototype again with some new effects and added a mac version. some fps are welcome again :-) don't forget to mention which os you're using. osx version: http://download.preview.ch/dancingplobb.sit (stuffed) |

new version results (win32): FPS Min=495 FPS Max=727 sprite max=661 Set Transform TEST (repeat 1000000 times): 'optimized' transform: 383 ms 'standard' transform: 495 ms AMD Athlon 64 3700+, 2.21GHz, 1GB ram, XP Home SP2, NVIDIA GeForce6600GT (x2) in SLi mode. |

New version: FPS min 247 FPS max 435 on my 1 gig Athlon XP 3000+ with 128 meg ATI Radeon 9600 Pro at 32-bit 1024x768 under Windows XP Pro SP2. Mac results posted in dancingplobb thread in MacOS X Discussion section. The rotating circle in Windows is slow to catch up to the mouse pointer compared to the Mac version (on the Mac, the circle is glued to the mouse cursor, but there's a quite-noticeable lag in Windows). Likely due to the already-known DirectX(/ATI?) problem. |

I'm sure "SpriteMax" will be free for all the happy BlitzMax users ;) |

[EDIT: doh!] |

the download site appears to be down at the moment... |

With the updated test program, I get the following: Min: 267 Avg: 422 Max 661 Optimized Transform: 448 Standard Transform: 528 Also, while the original test program had a graphical glitch/hiccup every second, the updated version still has it, but now it's once every 10 seconds instead. |
