Here's a link to my new game Asteroid Buddies: asteroid_buddies.zip (1.9 Mb) ![]() Controls: left/right for rotating, up/down for going forward/backward, and space or right control for shooting. Be wary of the asteroid buddies, who will attack you when you shoot their beloved big asteroids. They cannot hurt you directly (and neither can you hurt them) but they will fly into you in an annoying manner. I wrote this for a mini challenge on www.retroremakes.com , which is a warming up to the upcoming 2006 competition. Source code is included! (Blitz 3D, but only using 2D commands) |

Ooo I wonder if I should enter my Asteroids remake. |

And I just started last week to write an Asteroids remake. bummer... :) I'll have to take a look. Regards, Eric |

I was playing Filax's excellent asteroid clone today (written in BlitzMax). Did he ever complete it? It still has debug info running on the version I've got. [EDIT] Had a chance to try out your game Foppy and it runs very smooth and fast - a little too fast perhaps. The Asteroid buddy feature doesn't really work though - but an interesting idea. |

The feature is that when you blindly destroy all big asteroids, the creatures will annoy you while you are trying to clear away all the small rocks. So the trick is to be a little bit careful, and not destroy all the big rocks right away. Maybe it doesn't work for everybody, the difficulty level could be too high or too low. It could be that because I made the game, I got better at it and set the speed too high. This means that other people can have fun playing it after practicing for only a few days. :) |
| ||
Actually I thought the extra speed was the best feature because it makes it a bit different from the other clones and injects a bit of pace - might be too fast for some though. Perhaps faster at later levels. |

Ah, that reinspires me, thanks a lot! I've always loved games that are better than the originals. |

The mini-competition is closed now, and there is a voting thread on retro-remakes to find the best vector style game. There were nine entries in the end. Get them all from here:- http://www.retroremakes.com/forum2/showthread.php?t=6511 |
