Here's a video snip from level 11. Format is flash which seems to display okay for people here.

Looks good, your game actually looks fun and has a feel reminiscent of Amiga platformers - moves quite quickly, lots of action, good sound etc.

Cute! :)

Yeh - it is a sort of personal tribute to the old Amiga platformers. Well spotted!

You're not really good at playing this game, right? :D No kidding, it looks very well. The graphics are most likely great, but the flash video is a bit too small to see them clearly. Since I played the demo a while back, and I saw the screenshots, I'm confident they are nice. I find the music allright, although some bits are a bit too retro for my taste, like the piano fill when the tune is about to drop in. And I think it could use a stronger rhythm. The game does remind of the Amiga, but with better graphics, and I think the sound/music should do the same. There is a sound effect, a rather low tone that sounds like something in the middle between a piano and a teleport, that sounds like it is out of key with the music. So maybe it should be pitched a few notes down? It appears the first time when Tommy lands on the alien/robot. I was wondering, how'd you do the wasp sound effect?
The gameplay seems to be good, a lot of different characters. Great game, it is better than anything I'll ever make.

A huge chunk of the sound effects are my own voice - you would have a hard time believing me if I had a list for you to listen to!
The wasp is me again ( or is it the bee? I can't remember) - I alter the pitch with code. It protests as it falls off the screen with a higher pitch...also as it attacks

Midi music is actually Erasure (all the tunes are). I won't be using them -can't if I wanted to.

That low tone sound you here is probably as the monsters spawn from the spiral cloud. It all looks and works better in the game. The game-play is staggered due to me grabbing it and writing to disk.. and fighting on that ice is so slippy!

Thanks for the comments.

Nice to see one well made classic platformer. They are almost extinct now.

Looks very polished, I am not sure why I would jump that second time though, how do I know a magic platform will appear?, I could plummet to my doom, maybe not a bad thing...mind you some of tombraider is like that, a leap of faith ^^

Hujiklo(Posted 2009) [#11]
You've only seen a small, choppy flash video...it's much easier to play, and there is an audio and visual clue if there is an invisible object or surprise nearby. Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for the clarification, I thought as much. =)

Looking nice!

Blitzplotter(Posted 2009) [#14]
looking great, remininscent of Zool - which I think was meant to be the Amiga's Sonic killer app, but with bells on!

You never know Erasure might appreciate some more exposure? 'Give me a little respect....' My favourite tune.

Look, we're all ready to get out our wallets. Cut out the foreplay and let's get to the main event.

The videos make this game look like a modernized, polished version Commander Keen or Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure. I can't wait to see if it lives up to the Apogee legacy.
