Work in progress Rodland Latest Vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5fR8dIJQCE ![]() |

Looks a tad like Rick Dangerous... |
| ||
Looks good! I love retro-styled games. Are you using the new Virtual Resolution commands? |
| ||
Rodland. I rock. |
| ||
Rodland it is, its not using marks virtual resolution stuff but it is using a virtual system. |
| ||
I so remember this game. Strangly a lot better than many other Amiga titles. If you can get past its overwhelming cutieness, you'll find a game that simply works. Now that I started thinking, it's actually excellent example of a game. Easy to pick up, follows an understandable formula, layered (as in completing levels, collecting score and extra lives). Graphics, music, effects, all is aligned in style and quality. Great idea as a remake. Hope you can make it work too, Snixx. |
| ||
It is progressing rather well the vertical scrolling I have added means you basically "climb" a tower from floor 0 to floor xxx it will not be a complete clone and the graphics will be recreated after I have a playable version (just got to add the players and mobs) So it will be a game inspired by Rodland in the end, Rodland 2 XD ? |
| ||
Rodland is one of my all time favs. Played it on the C64 and Amiga. If you can bring it up together with 2 player coop, you are my hero... :) |
| ||
This will be a most welcome addition to my games' collection whether free or not if you can pull it all off.... |
| ||
Heres a small preview vid, shouldnt take long now to do the rest. Just have the mobs, letting the player pickup items such as the flowers, and some attack code and then its just onto the artwork and level design. It is all setup for co-op play also. And runs at a native 1280 x 720 but can downscale / upscale to whatever the res. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cBX67d74eg There is a live map editor as you can see in action halfway into the vid (currently with no gui) so you can edit and play at the same time. |

Looks cool. How are you doing the collision detection? As in your video all you do is laying new tiles... Is the ladder an object or part of the tileset? |
| ||
Due to the fact that in Rodland you cannot jump it was pretty simple its just a check to see if the feet of the character are within a tile, same for the left and right. And the ladder is part of the tileset but in my system it is classed as an object like the flowers or any other placeable item. |
| ||
Ahhh okay. Do you plan on changing the tileset? In Rodland do they change the tileset every level or so? (Ive never played it) If so, you may need to make sure your tileset objects are in the same place in all the tilesets. For example your flower tile might by in frame 1 of your first tileset, you need to ensure that in your second (etc) that the flower must be in the same frame - Just in case you didnt know :) In my latest game, I was doing the same, just checking the tile, but I had to add a collision layer due to tiles not being in the same place in another tileset... |
| ||
Ah ya I will be keeping the same layout in each tileset, in Rodland its so far always the same layout. But I do plan to reinvent this once it is "feature" complete from a Rodland remake into a new game inspired by. |

Virtual resolution commands? Ok what'd I miss?? |
| ||
Virtual resolution commands? Ok what'd I miss?? The Blitzmax 1.35 update, which includes an official DirectX 9 driver and projection matrix -- The VirtualResolution commands are part of the Projection Maxtrix code. |

Got a new vid, getting there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=995hdqRapHc |

Hey, that's cool. Can't wait to play. :) |
| ||
Mobs :O http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFgEh4l3rCY still need a lil tweaking. |
| ||
Nice. Rodland is a great game. A mate of mine wrote the C64 conversion of it back in the day. :) |

Small update http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5fR8dIJQCE Im starting to turn it into an original game now, but struggling with the artwork (aka I suck at artwork)... so thats a hurdle to get over. |
