good graphics looks interesting |

Just had a whirl (under XP). No crashes, runs well. Nice and colourful. No sound. The interface seems well thought out. I enjoyed turning the wheel with the mouse although I expect some players would want control via the keyboard <edit I see the arrow keys do this>. Most of the functions were obvious. Map is a little tricky to use in that the extra shading between solid ground and open water isn't that clear. Took a trip from Port Richmond to Port Terror. Got a good head of speed up. Wasn't clear if this was because I was running before the wind or indeed, whether wind is a factor at all. The clouds seemed to be scudding in the opposite direction to my travel. Is there a way to lock my ship into a port? Found I could rotate while docked and so my ship clipped badly with port. Indeed, collisions with port and beach need to be looked at as there's bad clipping issues here. All in all though, lots of potential here! <edit, water needs reflections> |

I haven't tried the demo, but I really like the looks of this. |

The other thing about a game like this is that there's a fair amount of competition - in that there's a few existing indie games that are similar and there's also the Sea Dogs series from Akella. So you may need to think a little 'outside the box' to have Pirates Empire stand out - or at least, one unique feature. |

First of all, thanks a lot for testing the little demo! We develop the game in german language so it is a little bit difficult for you to follow the worklog and the changes. I will try to explain it with my worse english. The manual is relativ easy. Commands after starting the game. camera look - hold middle mouse button and move to change point of view. in the harbour: press space to open the trading book left side the trading goods and price - right side your ship Accept with the right button under the book traveling: click on the anchor button (blue) - anchor is now up (brown) click on the sail slider to set sail up Look on the wind direction panel / left side upper corner the ship direction panel is nearby. If both arrows shows in the same direction the wind came from behind. click left mouse button an hold on the rudder There is a minimap in the right corner. click with left mouse button on it and you see the big map. You can wait for better wind on clicking the "weathercock" button (on day left) In that demo the collisions are off. The next demo will bring collisions and A.I. ships |

Is this game done in Blitz3d vanilla? |
| ||
Hi MadJack I didn't know what vanilla is? This game is written in "normal" Blitz3D. Actually we work on the fighting part. Here the next step, firing the canons. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmOAnWqjReA |

The term "Vanilla" derives from the use of vanilla extract as the basic flavouring for ice cream. As such, it is also regarded as "conventional" or "plain". Thus this term is used to refer to something in it's basic, standard or conventional form. |
