Hola hombres! sung and I currently work on a strategy game called "Pacific Battles". It's a round based game which will be playable against the computer, against a second player on the same PC (hot seat) and via Multiplayer including some kind of a high score list. Currently done is a very simple monkey KI (which obviously does some surprising moves from time to time) and all player movement and attacking. i didnt notice this until now, downloading..... Its kinda fun actually but it needs a lot of playtesting to make it more fun and balanced. It also needs sound, the way the turns are handled make it easy to just use the most powerful ships and ignore weaker ones which leads to very little tactical gameplay. I beat the game very easily on my first try. Also , you are forced to move before firing. |

Yes, sound is one thing that will come. At the moment I work on the AI which will become stronger than me I guess. :D |

Current feedback and what will be changed/added: So far we've got already some nice feedback/balancing which I want to summarize here. Movement * Submarine can move "through" other ships (just dive) * Destroyer will move in 8 directions (additionally diagonal) * Battleship and heavy Cruiser will move only 1 field per turn * Light cruiser will get an attack range of 1 * Patrol boat will get a move range of 3 Damage modifications The following attack combinations will make 100% damage: Carrier against destroyer, heavy cruiser, light cruiser Battleship against carrier, battleship, heavy cruiser and light cruiser Heavy cruiser against light cruiser, battleship, carrier and destroyer Light cruiser against destroyer and patrol boat Destroyer against submarine and patrol boat Submarine against carrier, battleship, heavy cruiser and light cruiser Patrol boat against submarine and carrier All other constellations have a modifier of -50% for attacking. Just played it. Very promising indeed! Story 1\10 Currently lacks Story. Graphics 8\10 Very good graphics! Looks like something you'd see in a commercial game, although I had some difficulty in telling the units apart. They need to look a bit more different from one another, but overall very nicely done! Sound 7\10 Not a lot of sound in there yet, but what's in there is solid stuff. Excellent explosion sounds :) Gameplay 7\10 Pretty fun. Kind of like a rock paper scissors type thing, in attacking the right units so you deal 100% damage. The units are diverse enough so they all have a purpose, and I can really see this game being quite fun to play once you add some scenarios. I'd probably not include a way to build more units, since that would totally change the game mechanics. Just have it like it is now, with different sets of ships for different scenarios :) The only thing that I found annoying, was that the computer player seemed to always get the first attack ;( No matter how I moved he'd always be just out of reach by one square, forcing me to move into his range if I wanted to start combat. Not sure what you could do about that one though, lol. Keep up the good work! |
