| A neighbor of mine own a Toshiba laptop and his Windows 7 was broken. I managed to start it up in safe mode and copied some important files to the D driver (another partition). We then ran the CD's that came with the PC and I think it deleted both partitions and made two new ones. When the installation was finished we could not find the copied files on the D drive any more. Is it possible to get those files back some how? I'm a Mac person myself and has not worked much with PC's for a long time. |

| I wouldn't be too hopeful. However there is some software that will try to recover files (try googling "recover files formatted disk" or such-like). Maybe if you try some of these quickly you will be lucky. |

| Try Recuva or Restoration, though if the partitions were deleted and re-built then you might be out of luck. If they were re-created at exactly the same places on the disk, though (possible if the same CD was used t set it up last time), there's a very slight chance it'll work, particularly if the D drive hasn't had anything copied onto it... |
