Underwater

About 2 weeks ago I began working on a prototype of an underwater
engine, just to see if I could pull it off. I wanted it to have high
quality terrain and nice visual effects like caustics on the ground and
dense particular matter floating around. I managed to pull together a
proof of concept that ran pretty smoothly and still maintained a high
enough level of detail that I felt I could actually make a game out of
it. So, here are some screens from that tech demo: ![]() ![]() ![]() I have a few more up on my site, but I think these do a good job of showing where I have the engine at right now. The caustics on the sea floor animate very nicely and really pull the underwater feel together. The little sub uses a flexible bubble system that I can repurpose for other things in the game world. Right now I'm focusing more on game specific elements, such as NPC dialog and transitions between different sections. It's starting to come together nicely so hopefully I'll have more to show very soon. 26K | Development Blog |
